Betsy Whitaker Covington joined the Community Foundation in 2001 and has since worked alongside the board and staff to lead efforts to fulfill the organization’s mission. Under her leadership, the organization has grown from $7 million in assets to over $160 million. Since its inception, the Community Foundation has received gifts of more than $250 million and has made grants totaling more than $140 million to efforts across the area from its more than 250 charitable funds.

Previously, Betsy served for more than ten years as the director of development for the Columbus Museum, where she was responsible for the museum’s efforts in fundraising, membership and audience development.

A native of Columbus, Betsy is a graduate of Vanderbilt University with a degree in communications. She has served as president of the Georgia Council of Community Foundations and chair of the Southeastern Council of Foundation’s Community Foundation Leadership Team.

A graduate of both Leadership Columbus and Leadership Georgia, Betsy is a past president of the Rotary Club of Columbus. She is a board member of LaGrange College, serves on the executive committee of Home for Good (the implementation effort for Columbus’ 10-year Plan to Eliminate Homelessness), and chairs the Vibrant & Connected Places Action Area for Columbus 2025, the Columbus area’s comprehensive long-range planning effort. She is a member of the Junto Study Club and a sustaining member of the Junior League of Columbus.

Betsy and her husband are the parents of two adult children.
